(Telecompaper) US musician and entrepreneur will.i.am has launched a new wrist wearable, dubbed Puls, that the artist said can do everything a smartphone can. Unveiled at the Salesforce Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, the smartwatch-style gadget can make calls and texts without needing to tether to a smartphone. It also runs a number of apps, including social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and comes with a GPS map system, a music player, as well as a pedometer and accelerometer. The curved-screen device has 1 GB of memory, 16 GB of storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and runs its own OS. "This is not a watch," said will.i.am at the launch. "It's a new type of communication on your wrist." No price details were disclosed but will.i.am confirmed that the Puls would be "affordable". He also said US users will need a data plan from AT&T to run the device while an O2 plan is required for UK users.
