At present, interstate trucking is only permitted for drivers 21 and older. But New Jersey's trucking industry is having a hard time drawing new drivers , so Republican lawmakers are looking to widen the pool of CDL applicants by lowering the federal age requirements.

Republican senators want to lower the legal age for driving a full-sized semi-truck across state lines from 21 to 18. This isn't the first time the idea's come up, but the trucking industry is apparently more desperate than ever to put butts in trucks. Just to be clear; we're talking about Class 8 commercial trucks, known to most of us as "big rigs," which as Chief of Advocacy for Trucking Associations Dave Osiecki pointed out to AP ; teens can already operate within their own state borders.

Albuquerque Journal: Corn destined to be turned into ethanol is a big cash crop in the Midwest, but as a renewable fuel it is problematic and a perennial political boondoggle. Midwest farmers get billions of dollars in subsidies to grow corn used to produce ethanol for fuel. A new rule by the Environmental Protection Agency would scale back planned increases in the amounts of ethanol allowed in gasoline. The amount of ethanol in gasoline would still increase in coming years, but not as much as called for in a 2007...
