2015-03-18 19:04:47| Powells Books Events Calendar
Classical Up Close, an annual series of free chamber music concerts organized and performed by musicians of the Oregon Symphony, will take place between April 24 and May 3, with performance events throughout various Portland-area neighborhoods. The festival centers around six informal, full-length concerts, where audience members are encouraged to sit onstage with the performers, take pictures, post to social media, ask questions, and applaud freely. Join us for one of their "blitz" performances and visit ClassicalUpClose.com for a complete schedule of events.
04.25: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail
2014-03-18 02:35:19| Powells Books Events Calendar
Emma Gatewood told her family she was going on a walk and left her small Ohio town with a change of clothes and less than 200 dollars. The next anybody heard from her, this farm-reared, 67-year-old great-grandmother had walked 800 miles along the Appalachian Trail, later becoming the first woman to hike the entire trail alone. Ben Montgomery's Grandma Gatewood's Walk (Chicago Review Press) is her compelling story — one of triumph, illustrating the full power of human spirit and determination.
