We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Radio Occultation Analysis and Processing Engineer You will be based initially at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Within the Radio Occultation RO Processing and Analysis Service, the engineer will participate in Systematic statistical analyses and validation of various RO data sets during the development and application of our Clients RO Science Processor in the context of RO reprocessing The development and refinement of the uncertainty characterisation of RO data The implementation and evolution of existing and future RO processing algorithms, in particular of wave optics approaches applied to tropospheric RO data. The engineer will further provide technical support for the implementation of newly developed and validated RO algorithms in our Clients operational processing chains and the actual reprocessing of multimission RO data. In the later part of the contract, the engineer will also support the formal validation of our Clients reprocessed RO data sets. The Engineer shall provide technical and scientific support for the activities described above. This support consists of tasks such as performing statistical analyses of RO data sets in comparison to other RO as well as NWP data implementing, testing and documenting modifications to our Clients existing RO Reference Processor supporting reprocessing activities of multiyear RO data sets both technically and scientifically performing validation activities for our Clients reprocessed RO data sets contributing to andor writing reports, presentations and peerreviewed papers presenting the results of these activities. Your Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have experience in the processing and scientific analysis of remote sensing data, and ideally of RO data. In addition, the key person shall have the following mandatory experience and background Experience in RO and other remote sensing product validation methods Knowledge of RO wave optics processing andor simulation algorithms Very good skills in a higher programming language, in particular Python using scientific numpy, scipy and plotting matplotlib packages Good interpersonal skills in support of team work. The following areas of expertise would be an advantage Experience in the field of NWP or climate monitoring Experience in scientific programming using other programming languages such as CC or modern Fortran Knowledge of R, SQL, and other Unix scripting languages Knowledge about other aspects of RO data processing, e.g. Precise Orbit Determination. The key person shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Tasks The System Engineering and Projects Division SEP is in charge of the maintenance and engineering of the ground based satellite infrastructure of the operational systems and to provide engineering expertise for the preparation of new missions. Within the SEP Division, the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area DPSA CA is responsible for the Engineering and Maintenance of online and offline operational Data Processing Systems. New needs for higher temporal, spatial and spectral resolution, new instruments, all this becomes reality with the new Meteosat Third Generation launched and operated by our customer EUMETSAT in 2021. In order to provide our customer with an excellent Assembly, Integration, and Verification AIV Service, we are looking for a Data Processing System Engineer with AIV experience in the earth observation domain. Responsibilities Duties The principal task of the AIV Engineering Service Team is to perform the AIV engineering activities foreseen for the integration, validation and verification of the MTG System, coordinated by the EUMETSAT Technical Officer. As a member of the future MTG AIV Engineering Support Team, you will be tasked with the generation of tests specifications for the MTG System AIV the generation of test results analysis reports the generation of non test based verification reports the interaction with the MTG System Team for the procurement of test data identified in the test specifications, including the analysis of received deliverables and attending acceptance tests the identification and development of additional tools to generate adhoc test data or to anaylse the test results. Due to the complexity of the entire MTG mission, it is also foreseen, that you will contribute to the acceptance of the MTG facilities before their integration in the MTG System contribute to maintain the AIV schedule in coordination with the AIV Engineering Responsible contribute to evolution of the VCD in coordination with the Requirements Verification Team contribute, if needed, to the preparation of test procedure, including the automatic test procedures, and execution of tests in coordination with the Tests Preparation and Execution Team Qualifications Experience University degree in the domain of engineering, physics, or equivalent.
