Data Processing System Development, Integration and Test Engineer

For our office in Darmstadt, Germany, we are looking for an experienced software system development, integration and test engineer, with specific experience of current containerisation and enterprise cloud orchestration technologies and knowledge of satellite Earth Observation data processing systems. As a member of our Ground Systems group in Darmstadt, you will be initially working on the development, integration and testing of data processing systems for our customer, EUMETSAT. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be involved in the development of highperformance data processing systems using latest technologies. Responsibilities As a System Development, Integration and Test Engineer, you will support Termas Ground System group in the development, test, deployment and support of systems with a focus on satellite Data Processing using cloudorchestration technologies. The position can involve any aspect of system and software development following formal development processes and standards, including Requirements analysis System architecture analysis and design Detailed design and implementation Integration and system testing Formal validation and acceptance Delivery to the customer and deployment Customer support Development work will be performed using modern methodologies, including CICD. The work includes the production of deliverable documents, including design documents, test plans and reports, and user manuals. This is a fulltime position to be normally located at Termas premises in Darmstadt with the planned start date on 1st July 2021. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a university degree in a relevant engineering field, applicants should have at least 4 years of relevant professional working experience, and be able to cover many of the following topics Systems architecture covering areas such as containerisation, cloud computing, orchestration, hosted processing, EO data access formats Knowledge of opensource software related to containerorchestration Kubernetes significant professional experience Rancher container management platform Helm package manager for Kubernetes HTCondor highthroughput computing software framework Python programming PostgreSQL PrometheusGrafana for systems monitoring Technologies Parallel file systems e.g. IBM Spectrum Scale, GlusterFS Batch processing High Throughput Computing HTC Earth Observation data processing, ideally in the EUMETSAT environment Background in system and software development, integration, test and validation Demonstrated experience in writing of formal technical documentation in English. You will be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, able to work calmly and accurately under stress and able to work without supervision. You will be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You must have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. The Remote Sensing Scientist for Hyperspectral Level1 Processing provides scientific and technical expertise on hyperspectral infrared measurements and their applications, and supports the calibration and validation of EUMETSAT hyperspectral infrared instruments. What youll be doing Support the development and operations of Level1 data processing chains for the IASI, IASING and IRS instruments onboard EUMETSAT satellites, including all aspects relating to product generation and quality monitoring calibration, verification and validation Develop and maintain prototype software in order to improve the operational implementations of Hyperspectral IR Level 1 processing across EUMETSAT missions Initiate and lead relevant scientific studies, including the management of external contracts Support the definition of requirements for the realisation of future satellite products and services Support reprocessing and calibration activities for climate purposes Actively interact and cooperate with the operational user community of EUMETSAT satellite products and services and with international partners. Scientific and operational knowledge of atmospheric sounding in the infrared domain is an advantage Experience in an operational environment would be an asset Excellent problem solving, analysis, synthesis and presentation skills Strong interpersonal skills and teamorientation Experience in working with atmospheric and meteorological user communities and researchers.
