Officials say 'no threat to public' after tritium leak at Browns Ferry plant
2015-01-12 02:33:11| Energy - Topix.net
Tennessee Valley Authority officials confirmed a leak of water from Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in the past week contained levels of a radioactive element above Environmental Protection Agency drinking water standards. Approximately 100-200 gallons of water containing tritium seeped from the tanks at an estimated rate of a half-gallon per minute.

Indian Points Tritium Problem and N.R.C.s Regulatory Problem
2014-06-12 19:17:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
New York Times: The Indian Point nuclear power plant, 30 miles from New York City (and 8 miles from my house), has been run safely and reliably for the most part. But its at a critical juncture, with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo having vowed to shut it down and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission weighing relicensing for the two operating reactors. Now news that two monitoring wells detected a spike in levels of tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, has raised important questions about the aging infrastructure...

Japan: Tritium levels spike at stricken Fukushima nuclear plant
2013-09-11 12:18:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: The operator of the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant said levels of tritium - considered one of the least harmful radioactive elements - spiked more than 15 times in groundwater near a leaked tank at the facility over three days this week. Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) said tritium levels in water taken from a well close to a number of storage tanks holding irradiated water rose to 64,000 becquerels per liter on Tuesday from 4,200 becquerels/liter at the same location on Sunday. Tepco said...

High-level radioactive tritium found in seawater at Fukushima plant port
2013-08-25 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Asahi Shimbun: Concentrations of radioactive tritium in seawater from the port of the stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant have risen between eight and 18 times in one week, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Aug. 23. It seems highly likely that the contaminated water is spreading into the sea beyond the port. The latest levels are the highest since June, when TEPCO, the plant operator, strengthened its monitoring after discovering that groundwater contaminated with radioactive materials around the No....
