NHTSA Calls for V2V Technology in Models Built After 2020
2014-08-25 00:37:12| AutomotiveDigest.com - Automotive Industry News
NHTSAs preliminary estimates of safety benefits of V2V technology show that just two safety applications - Left Turn Assist (LTA) and Intersection Movement Assist (IMA) could prevent up to 592,000 crashes and 1,083 lives could be saved per year. By Mike Sheldrick, Senior Editor Lets give the government credit where its due: 30 years ago, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) began programs designed to apply electronic and software systems to the transportation system. 2014-05-31 20:02:52| AutomotiveDigest.com - Automotive Industry News
The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a new study that underscores the high economic toll and societal impact of motor vehicle crashes in the United States. The price tag for crashes comes at a heavy burden for Americans at $871 billion in economic loss and societal harm. "No amount of money can replace the life of a loved one, or stem the suffering associated with motor vehicle crashes," said U.S. Secretary Anthony Foxx. "While the economic and societal costs of crashes are staggering, today's report clearly demonstrates that investments in safety are worth every penny used to reduce the frequency and severity of these tragic events."
