LGs flexible and transparent OLED displays are the beginning of the e-paper revolution

In 2012 it was a flexible e-ink display. In 2013 it was the slightly flexible OLED display used in the G Flex smartphone. And now in 2014 LG has produced a massive, 18-inch OLED display that can be rolled up into a tight cylinder with a radius of just 3 centimeters (1.2 inches). In addition, LG has also announced an 18-inch OLED display that is highly transparent. By 2017, LG thinks it can combine both of these prototypes to create a 60-inch, UHD (4K) display that is both flexible and transparent. Is the dream of a flexible, fold-up 'e-paper' display finally upon us? Is that the death knell of the printed page that I can hear tolling in the distance?

LG's Flexible OLED Screen Is Totally Tubular

The competition to offer transparent and flexible OLED screens heated up last week, with LG's unveiling of two 18-inch OLED displays. One is flexible and the other transparent. "Up to now, nobody has come up with an 18-inch flexible OLED display, although both LG and Samsung offer smartphones with flexible displays of less than six inches," said IHS research director Sweta Dash.

LG Display unveils rollable and transparent OLED panels

LG Display has announced that it has developed an 18-inch flexible OLED panel that is rollable as well as an 18-inch transparent OLED panel. The flexible OLED panel has a high-definition class resolution of 1200 X 810 with almost 1 million mega-pixels.
