Position Reference 999 We are currently looking for an Advanced Concepts and Studies Office System Engineer to work at ESA HQ in the city of Paris, France. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Prepare together with ESA experts new OSIP Campaigns and Channels to identify innovative ideas in all areas of the agency Participation to final presentations for Discovery and Preparation activities Provide system engineering competence in the preparation and implementation of activities and work plans Support the Offices objective to inform different stakeholders on running and past activities and results via web stories or sharing of activity documentation, specifically via a combination of automatized, scripted and ad hoc information input. Development of new web tools to support dissemination and efficient internal and external communication and exchange. Development of smart training and guidance material for all tools in use by the Office e.g. OSIP, NEBULA, etc. General proactive new development and improvement of automatization solutions for the Office, specifically on the different report generation tasks. Support the office reporting to different stakeholders internal and external, specifically via the introduction and continuous improvement of automatization steps, e.g. scripting reporting taking information from different sources and databases. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters degree in space science or engineering disciplines, with at least 4 years of relevant experience. A good academic background in space systems engineering with knowhow for automation e.g. by use of python programming and experience or at least strong curiosity for innovation processes is of particular relevancy for the on hand tasks. Basic knowledge in Web application development and administration. Functioning knowledge of python or another similar programming language. Basic knowledge, or at least proven interest in innovation platforms and open innovation. Be able to work in a diverse team as well as being able to adopt an independent working style where needed. Open to learn new things and adapt to a dynamic environment with fast changing requirements on the job tasks. Natural curiosity and a passion for new subjects. For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced Systems or Project Support Engineer for the planning of advanced concepts and feasibility studies to select new mission concepts. The position is based at ESAs headquarter in Paris, France. Responsibilities You will be assigned to ESAs Advanced Concepts Team, which is engaging in collaborative research relations with university institutes and research centres, focusing on advanced research topics of potential strategic interest to the space sector and in experimenting with new forms of teamwork. You will support the Discovery and Preparation elements of the Discovery Preparation and Technology Development DPTD programme. This programme carries out analysis and laying the groundwork for the Agencys future activities with the following objectives Study feasibility for selection of new mission concepts. Preparedemonstrate the case for approval and funding of new optional projectsprogrammes. Implement interdisciplinary discovery project for paradigm shifts and game changers. Perform early blue sky research on topics that are recognised as being potential breakthrough ideas but not implementable in the next ten years. Support the evolution of ESA by analysing and testing new working methodologies. DETAILED TASK DESCRIPTION Support to organisational and managerial tasks of the Advanced Concepts and Studies Office, which includes specifically Implementation of QMS procedures. Setup and implementation of innovation strategy related to the scope of Discovery and Preparation elements. Support to Programme control. Support the preparation, procurement and implementation of activities of the Discovery element of the Basic Activities this includes specifically Preparation of OSIP call for idea campaigns and channels. Increase information flow between the Advanced Concepts Team, ESAs internal research thinktank and activities submitted via Discovery element campaigns and channels on OSIP. Following and monitoring the implementation of Discovery activities. Participation to final presentations. Support the preparation, procurement and implementation of activities of the Preparation element of the Basic Activities this includes specifically Provide system engineering competence in the preparation and implementation of activities and work plans. Interface with ESAs Concurrent Design Facility CDF in preparation of, and during CDF studies related to Preparation element activities. The definition and implementation of technology predevelopment activities in the frame of prephase A and phase A studies. Following and monitoring the implementation of Preparation element activities. Preparation of yearly status and achievements for the areas of the Office. Support the continuous development of tools, websites and databases for the Discovery and Preparation elements, this includes specifically Interface with the related services within the ESA IT department. Development of the Nebula database according to ESA objectives, user needs and technical trends. Administration of all Discovery and Preparation web platforms e.g. user and technical management. Development of ESAs Open Space Innovation Platform OSIP according to ESA objectives, user needs and technical trends. Generate training and communication material both for OSIP and NEBULA. Generate usage statistics for the tools, websites and databases. Setup of new digital infrastructure to support the Discovery and Preparation element meeting its objectives e.g. new web applications. Support the outreach activities related to Discovery and Preparation element activities, which includes specifically Identify topics from Discovery and Preparation element activities and support drafting stories for websites, intranet pages, press releases and social media stories in close coordination with the relevant communication services of ESA. Contribute to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency e.g. NEBULA or web articles. This is a fulltime position located at ESA, Paris, France. The requested start of work is August September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate shall have A Master degree in Space Science or engineering disciplines with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience. Basic knowledge in the areas of space engineering, applications and science. Basic knowledge, or at least proven interest, in innovation platforms and open innovation mechanisms. Experience with Web application development and administration. Knowledge of Python or another similar programming language. Desirable Prior experience with early projects phases and feasibility studies, especially space projects, highly desirable.
