Main Responsibilities The postholder will focus on the below main responsibilities Support the investigation of instrument anomalies and analysis related to the CryoSat geophysical products including the development of Quality Control and Validation tools as well as the use of the ESA MiniPDS Provide scientific advice on the quality of the current processing algorithms and their evolution Support to CryoSat full reprocessing campaigns associated to new ice and ocean processing baselines GOP, ICE Contribute to the management of the CryoSat qualityrelated support contracts including the review of contractual deliverables and drafting of technical documents e.g. new SoW and change requests Support the definition, development and implementation of new RD activities dealing with the validations and emerging scientificoperational applications of CryoSat data products Assist the management of the Cryosat Quality Working Group and related scientific support Support CryoSat communication activities e.g. web stories, ESA publications, scientific papers, etc., contributing to the presentations and posters in international conferences EGU, AGU, OSTST, LPS etc. and workshops, contribute to the coorganisation and cochairing of CryoSatPolarrelated conferences Interface between ESAESRIN, the Scientific Community and CryoSat experts and other SpaceOperational agencies regarding the quality and exploitation of the CryoSat data products for both Ice and Ocean surfaces. Support the generation of periodical service reports, documenting the activities performed Successful Candidate The successful Candidate will bring Applicants should have a high level of selfmotivation, the capability to work effectively in a team and autonomously, and have excellent organisation skills. A strong proactive attitude is required in identifying problems and proposing solutions. Mandatory knowledge and experience requisites are University degree, or equivalent, in physics or engineering or a related discipline. Good background in the field of satellite radar altimetry Experience in satellite data processing handling Development of utilities for supporting the analysis of large set of data and data visualization Mandatory requisites are Handson experience with altimetry validation methods and scientific analysis of in situ data Handson experience with ocean ice and multimission satellite polar data Good knowledge of altimeter missions and their applications Good oral and written communication Spatial, temporal and other statistical analyses of EO data in particular Altimetric data Scientific publication and reporting including oral presentations of results Good Working proficiency in English. Good scientific programming skills e.g. Matlab, IDL, C, Pyton or Fortran In addition, the candidate shall have Attitude to follow guidelines and to require minimum supervision, proactively requesting help when needed Ability to plan and report and to work to deadline. Main Responsibilities Within the Data Quality and Algorithm Management Office, the postholder will join the Quality Assurance For Earth Observation QA4EO contract, directly responding to the Area Manager with the objective of coordinating and managing of CryoSat related Teams and Projects for data quality, scientific validation and altimetry processing algorithm evolutions over the Landice, the SeaIce and the Ocean surfaces as well as over Coastal zones. Position Reference 021 For our client, the European Space Agency, RHEA Group is recruiting a Mission Geophysicist to work on the Cryosat 2 Mission. You will work closely with the Mission Manager providing quality and scientific support to the CryoSat mission, with an emphasis on the performance and quality of the SIRAL instrument and products. CryoSat is the Earth Explorer radar altimeter mission of the European Space Agency whose main goal is to provide the scientific community with accurate measurements of mass and thickness fluctuations in the Earths land and marine ice fields. Such measurements are of particular importance for the testing and verification of mesoscale and regional numerical models that include cryospheric components, and for improving our understanding and predictions of the impact of a changing climate on the cryosphere httpsearth.esa.intcryosat Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Provide endtoend scientific assessment of the CryoSat geophysical products i.e. Level2 focusing mainly on sea ice and land ice fields Support investigation and troubleshooting related to the CryoSat geophysical products Provide scientific advice on the quality of the current processing algorithms and their evolution Support the assessment and analysis of the performance of the SIRAL instrument, including product verification, validation and calibration activities of the Cryosat mission Support the management and evolution of the scientific processors including their validation Assist the management of the Cryosat Quality Working Group and related scientific support Support CryoSat communication activities e.g. web stories, ESA publications, etc., contributing to the preparation of presentations and reports, including for international geophysical conferences EGU, AGU, etc. and workshops. Publication of scientific papers to be published on a peer review journal is highly encouraged Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory PhD or equivalent in Earth Sciences or Engineering with experience in the use and analysis of remote sensing satellites data especially altimetry. Experience with CryoSats geophysical data over seaice andor land ice is an asset. High level of selfmotivation and proactiveness, the capability to work effectively in a team with minimum supervision and have excellent communication and presentation skills. A very good knowledge of the English language, both oral and written is required. Experience in data processing and use of tools such MATLAB or IDL language for data analysis and visualisation.
