The federal government says fall Chinook salmon are returning to the Hanford Reach section of the Columbia River in record-setting numbers. Scientists estimate 200,000 Chinook are spawning in the Hanford Reach, the most fish ever counted in this area since dams were constructed in the 1930s.

DOE to investigate past Hanford medical protection

The Department of Energy's Office of Enforcement plans to investigate allegations that Hanford workers were put at risk because of a defective electronic medical record system. It also has notified Computer Sciences Corp., the owner of Hanford's former occupational medicine services provider, that it is considering enforcement action for retaliation against two former workers who raised the concerns.

Hanford Old Navy sued over secret video of girl undressing

A girl who spotted a cell phone while it recorded a secret video of her undressing in an Old Navy store has sued the store, its parent company, The Gap Inc., and an employee now in jail. The lawsuit , filed last week in Kings County Superior Court by lawyer Warren Paboojian of Fresno, alleges invasion of privacy, negligence and emotional distress, and seeks damages for pain and suffering.

Energy Department inspector general inconclusive on firing of Hanford whistleblower

The U.S. Department of Energy's inspector general on Monday said it could not determine if a whistleblower on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation was fired for raising safety concerns because two contractors failed to provide all the documents needed in the investigation. Donna Busche was fired in February after raising questions about the safety of the unfinished Waste Treatment Plant at Hanford, the nation's most polluted nuclear site.
