UK new-car sales rise 13% in June boosted by low finance deals

UK new-car registrations in June rose by 13 percent year-on-year to 257,817 vehicles, which marked the best half-year performance on record, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders , said in a statement today. The SMMT said that the increase meant sales were up by 6.9 percent in the first six months of the year to 1.28 million, although it expected slower growth later this year.

Spanish new-car sales rose 24 percent to 111,333 in June, manufacturers' association Anfac said today, marking 22 straight months of growth and following a 14 percent rise in May. A Spanish government-backed subsidy scheme to boost new vehicle acquisitions has helped spur purchases over the last two years. It was renewed for the seventh time in May with an injection of 225 million euros .
