CEO Mark Fields on Wednesday took the stage at the International CES 2015 in Las Vegas and said that Ford Motor is focusing on bringing autonomous automobiles to the masses. Although Ford may not be the first company to produce a self-driving car, it could be the first to deliver one outside of the luxury category, Fields said in his keynote address.

Germany's Daimler AG wants to reset consumers' expectations about self-driving cars with its futuristic Mercedes-Benz F 015 concept, unveiled Monday evening at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. "Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society," said Daimler Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche, one of this year's keynote speakers at CES.

So earlier this month, global logistics provider DHL issued what it calls a "trend report" entitled Self-Driving Vehicles in Logistics . The nearly 40-page study penned by Markus Kckelhaus , director of DHL trend research, provides an in-depth look at the many technological, regulatory, and societal acceptance hurdles ahead for autonomous or "self-driving" vehicles some of which I've detailed in this space previously .
