Alibaba revenue growth improves to 51% in Q4, outlook cautious for new year

(Telecompaper) Alibaba's growth accelerated in the company's fiscal fourth quarter to March, showing little impact from the slowing Chinese economy. Sales were up 51 percent year-on-year to CNY 93.5 billion (USD 13.9 billion). Its core e-commerce business grew 54 percent to CNY 78.9 billion, while cloud computing was up 76 percent to CNY 7.7 billion. The net profit more than tripled, to CNY 23.4 billion from CNY 6.6 billion, thanks to valuation gains on investments.

Singtel's quarterly revenue grows 2% on consumer, digital businesses growth

(Telecompaper) Singapore operator Singtel saw its revenue increase by 2 percent year-on-year to SGD 4.34 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter ended 31 March. Revenue growth was mainly boosted by its consumer business and growing digital businesses. Pre-tax profits for the regional associates declined 20 percent to SGD 389 million due to Airtel's results, which were affected by competitive pressures, and the associates' higher depreciation, spectrum amortisation and network costs from the expansion of their 4G networks. Net profit, which included exceptional gains from Airtel, was stable at SGD 773 million.

Vodacom Group FY revenue rises 4.3% to ZAR 90.1 bln, customers up 5.8%, net profit dips

(Telecompaper) Vodacom Group said its revenue increased by 4.3 percent to ZAR 90.1 billion in the year ended 31 March. It ended the fiscal year with 110 million customers, up by 5.8 percent. Operating profit rose 1.1 percent to ZAR 24.51 billion, or 7.4 percent excluding a one-off, non-cash IFRS 2 charge of ZAR 1.4 billion and transaction costs of ZAR 124 million relating to the BEE deal. Net profit decreased slightly to ZAR 15.44 billion from ZAR 15.56 billion in 2018.
