AEP Ohio provides energy efficiency learning for students

Students at Southern High School's Agriculture Education/FFA department are learning to become wise consumers of energy while at the same time helping their families save money by reducing energy waste at home. Students in the agriculture education classes are participating in the E3 Smart Program offered by AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power.

3D-Printed 'Urban Concept' Car Assembled by Singapore Students

Students at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University have built the island republic's first 3D-printed concept car. The NTU Venture 8 (NV8) is built on a carbon fiber single-shell chassis. Its 150 3D parts were made out of lightweight plastic that were created on printers at the university, 3D printer manufacturer Stratasys, and the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology.

The Dow Chemical Company's Instrument and Electrical Apprenticeship has expired, but when it opens up again, hare a few of the requirements for the three to four year company paid program: Almost 1,200 students attended the Victoria Business and Education Coalition's Dream Big Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Career and College Expo. Students were all eighth-graders from various area private and public schools who heard speakers from industry giants like Dow Chemical, Alcoa and Invista talk about career opportunities in process technology, instrumentation and electrical, engineering, health and medical, information technology and welding.

GRCC hosting open houses for manufacturing partnership that pairs students with businesses

Grand Rapids Community College is hosting two open houses next month for a job training program that pairs eligible students with West Michigan manufacturers. The open houses for GRCC's Advanced Manufacturing Partnership are scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. February 5 at Steelcase's wood plant, 4100 68th St. SE in Kentwood, and February 9 at Herman Miller, 855 E. Main Ave. in Zeeland from 5:30-8 p.m. Under the college's Advanced Manufacturing Partnership , eligible students work part time for a participating manufacturer and attend GRCC part-time to learn more about the field they're now working in.
