The Justice Department said on Friday it granted antitrust approval for Waste Management Inc's purchase of Deffenbaugh Disposal, Inc. Waste Management Inc,, a $14 billion a year garbage and recycling giant, agreed to sell assets in Kansas and Arkansas in order to win approval for the $405 million deal, the department said. The divestitures were focused on small container waste services, or collecting solid waste from offices and apartment buildings, the department said.

US close: Banks rise on Fed approval, surging dollar eases

US stocks rebounded from a two day losing streak on Thursday, as the dollar retreated from a 12 year high and a number of banks were approved by the Federal Reserve to raise dividends and buy back shares. At close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.47% to 17,895.22, the S&P 500 climbed 1.3% to 2,065.95 and the Nasdaq Composite jumped 0.89% to 4,893.29.

A group of area residents is taking legal action against the Wisconsin DNR for granting a railway expansion permit to Burlington Northern Santa Fe. In order for a proposed second rail line to become a reality in La Crosse BNSF needs to be granted multiple permits by the city, DNR, and Army Corp. of Engineers.

BIO issued statement regarding approval by FDA of the first biosimilar product under the pathway created by the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act. According to Jim Greenwood, BIO President and CEO, for more than a decade, BIO has called for open, transparent, and science-based dialogue regarding biosimilars. It is unfortunate that the lack of publicly available naming guidance resulted in FDA's assignment of a "placeholder" name for approved biosimilar.
