EPA Releases Report on 2013 toxic chemical waste releases.

According to annual U.S. EPA Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) report, most toxic chemical waste managed at industrial facilities in USA was not released into environment in 2013. Report shows approximately 22 billion pounds (84%) of 26 billion pounds of toxic chemical waste were managed via such preferred practices as recycling. Of 4 billion pounds disposed of or otherwise released to environment, 66% went to land, 19% to air, and 5% to water. Remaining 10% was transferred to other facilities.

As part of Obama Administration’s commitment to addressing climate change, EPA has outlined series of steps it plans to take to address methane and smog-forming VOC emissions from oil and gas industry. Agency’s commonsense strategy will reduce methane pollution from new sources, reduce ozone-forming pollutants from existing sources in areas that do not meet federal ozone health standards, and build on work that states and industry are doing to address emissions from existing sources elsewhere.
