HTC confirms One mini to launch in August

(Telecompaper) HTC has confirmed a new smaller version of its flagship One smartphone, the HTC One mini. The new phone comes with a smaller 4.3-inch screen and slightly lower specifications than the HTC One launched this spring, including a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM and 4 megapixel camera. It runs Android 4.2 with the latest version of the HTC Sense user interface, including features such as BoomSound and the BlinkFeed. It will be available in silver or black in select markets from August and globally from September.

BT confirms 300 Mbps FTTP service, new Home Hub 5 router

(Telecompaper) BT has confirmed plans to launch the BT Home Hub 5 later in 2013. The BT Home Hub 5 will come with ac Wi-Fi, four GigE ports and an integrated VDSL modem. It will be included in all BT Infinity packages as standard. Existing Infinity customers will be able to recontract to get a Home Hub 5 free or will be able to buy one for a small fee. Hub 4 will continue to be offered as an inclusive part of the package with all copper broadband packages. BT also confirmed plans to launch a 300 Mbps FTTP service. The service will initially be available within 50 exchange areas where FTTP infrastructure has been deployed to date, and will offer downstream and upstream speeds of up to 300 Mbps and 20 Mbps respectively. Existing FTTP customers will also be able to upgrade to the faster speeds by upgrading to the GBP 50 Unlimited package, which comes without any usage limits and is free from traffic management.
Brazil confirms Amazon deforestation increase

Mongabay: Data released by the Brazilian government Friday confirms an increase in Amazon forest loss. Brazil's National Space Research Institute, INPE, updated data from its near-real-time deforestation tracking system, known as DETER. The system showed a near five-fold increase in forest loss during May 2013 relative to a year earlier, from 99 square kilometers to 465 sq km. 59 percent of the clearing occurred in Mato Grosso, a state in the Southern Amazon where large-scale farms and cattle ranching drive...

EE confirms double-speed 4G, plus new 4G, fibre offers

(Telecompaper) UK operator EE has announced its next-generation network and a range of new plans and services for faster 4G and fibre broadband services. The operator will officially switch on double-speed 4G in 12 UK cities on 04 July, offering a theoretical maximum speed of 150 Mbps and doubling the current average speeds of 24-30 Mbps. EE will make double-speed 4G available to all existing 4GEE customers, while they remain on their current 4GEE plan. EE will also launch a new range of services on 17 July, including the UK's first Shared 4GEE Plans, allowing customers to connect up to five separate devices to one 4GEE plan.
