EU's clothing imports have stagnated in most categories of products in the first quarter this year, due to the continued weakness of the euro and the pound. The European import market has eventually declined in dollar terms from its level five years earlier, as reflected by our report. Statistical tables are published with volume, value and unit value changes in euro and US$ terms, covering 61 and 62 HS chapters (knit and woven clothing). The European Union clothing import market is progressively back to normal, after experiencing a severe crisis in the last year, triggered by a spectacular fall of the euro and the pound. As a result, unit prices have nearly stabilized over the first quarter after plunging in the same period last year, as reflected by our comprehensive review of EU's clothing imports per origin. China's share of the US apparel market has declined in the first quarter, with a weakening leadership in cotton apparel categories but also in man-made fiber categories where China has until now resisted any decrease. This significant move is reflected by our statistical review covering the last five years and comparing US apparel imports from China with shipments from Rest of the World (RoW) for every category of products, in volume, value and unit value terms. US apparel imports have fallen in value terms in the first quarter 2016, for the first time since the third quarter of 2013, reflecting a serious drop in Chinese shipments and a slowing down growth for other origins.
