Reuters: India's earth sciences minister has blamed climate change for a heatwave that has killed 2,500 people and for deficient monsoon rains, after the government said on Tuesday the country was headed for its first drought in six years. Weak car sales point to financial strain

THERE are early signs that financial pressure on households and deteriorating consumer confidence, caused by a lacklustre economic outlook, have started to bite into new passenger car sales growth. Figures released yesterday revealed that new car sales fell last month by 5.4 percent to 31 201 units from the 32 974 new cars sold in May last year.

The latest evidence came in a report issued Saturday by Janney Montgomery Scott in which the firm maintained its buy rating of American Eagle stock and raised its price target from $19 a share to $20, according to industry reports. On Tuesday morning after a Memorial Day weekend, American Eagle's stock was trading around $16.40 a share, still below the company's 52-week high of more than $18.00 after the company's first-quarter report announced last week achieved 15 cents per share , beating analysts' estimates.
