Dish wins court ruling against ABC over ad-free TV box

2013-09-19 09:09:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) US pay-TV provider Dish Network has won a court ruling against broadcaster ABC, allowing it to continue to offer the PrimeTime Anytime and AutoHop features on its Hopper box. ABC had asked the court the block the use of the Hopper box, claiming it limited the company's ability to generate advertising revenue, threatening its business. The Hopper allows users to access content from the four major networks in the US for up to eight days after broadcast, as well as skip ads when viewing the recorded material. The ruling was issued by Judge Laura Swain of the Southern District of New York, US District Court. This is the third federal court decision that has sided with Dish on the right for TV viewers to skip commercials, Dish said.
