The chairman of China's Tsinghua Unigroup traveled to the United States this week to meet with board members of Micron Technology and try to revive a politically fraught takeover bid of the U.S. chipmaker, people familiar with the matter said. Micron dismissed an informal $23 billion offer by state-backed investment firm Unigroup in July on the presumption that the U.S. regulatory committee that reviews foreign acquisitions of sensitive U.S. companies would block the deal on national security concerns, sources have said.

Syngenta share price plummets after Monsanto ends takeover bid

Crop science giant Syngenta AG saw its share price plunge Wednesday after competitor Monsanto announced it would end its months-long pursuit of a merger. Switzerland-based Syngenta , which has its North American headquarters in Greensboro, was trading at $79 a share at about 10 a.m. Wednesday when Monsanto announced it was backing away from its takeover attempts.
Cellcom considers bid for Golan Telecom

(Telecompaper) Cellcom Israel has announced its intention to review the possible purchase of holdings in, or assets of, Golan Telecom, following an invitation by Bank Rothschild on behalf of Golan Telecom's shareholders. Cellcom said there is no assurance that it will go ahead with an offer to purchase Golan. According to Globes, Golan said it was considering whether to put itself up for sale, or acquire a competitor. Golan said it could either expand by buying out a rival, or exit the market. Golan has amassed 850,000 subscribers and the announcement comes before it enters the TV market.

Monsanto Drops Bid for Syngenta

Monsanto has dropped its roughly $46 billion bid for rival Syngenta AG, bringing an end to a strongly resisted takeover bid that would have reshaped the global agriculture industry. Monsanto, the world's largest seller of biotech seeds, proposed in late April a deal that would have created a world leader in both seed and pesticide sales.
