Freenet reluctant to join Sunrise rights issue for UPC takeover

(Telecompaper) German operator Freenet is not pleased with the proposed structure of Sunrise's takeover of UPC Switzerland and may not participate in the rights issue called by Sunrise to fund the deal. While the deal has industrial logic, the company said, Freenet would prefer to see a merger of the companies, rather than Sunrise taking on all the financial risks, Freenet's CFO Ingo Arnold told news agency dpa-AFX.

With "5G for People", Sunrise is focusing on an initial phase of "fibre speed through the air" in areas that are not covered by fibre-optic networks. By the end of March, 150 cities and villages will have 5G coverage.
