Flex PDGS SubSystem Engineer

Position Reference 767 We are currently looking for a Flex PDGS SubSystem Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Frascati, Italy. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include During phase B2CDE1 Management Support to the PDGS subsystems technical officers for Preparation of the PDGS subsystems managerial documentation e.g. implementation plan Preparation of the PDGS subsystems contractual documentation e.g. SoWs Management of industries in charge of PDGS subsystems development Coordination of PDGS subsystems review. Preparation of the PDGS SubSystems requirements documents Support to PDGS specification for the part relevant to the PDGS data processing subsystems implementation e.g. Interface Control Documents. Support the acceptance by the PDGS Project of PDGS external CFIs. Review of documentation from various sources ESA, Industry during the project phases dealing with subsystems implementation and testing. Participation to Ground Segment Reviews and PDGS reviews organized either by ESA or by Industry. Management of the review item discrepancies, system or software problem reports and action linked to PDGS SubSystems implementation contracts Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the relevant project phases. Operations of the various supporting tools for the part relevant to the PDGS subsystems implementation e.g. Documentation Management System. Support to the PDGS Integration and Validation and Ground Segment Validation phases addressing for the relevant PDGS subsystems Integration of the facility within the processing centre Definition of integration and validation tests Run of integration and validation tests procedures Test results analysis Test reporting Support for operators training and preparation of operational documentation for the relevant PDGS subsystems. Support for definition and documentation of the PDGS Commissioning Implementation Plan and procedures for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for the preparation of the launch and the implementation of rehearsal activities for the relevant PDGS subsystems. Support for the management of PDGS Operations, system behavior monitoring and reporting during commissioning for the relevant PDGS subsystems Adhoc development of tools for the accomplishment of the PDGS subsystems engineering, testing and validation, etc. During phase E2 Support for the subsystems impact analysis of new PDGS requirements deriving from new user needs andor new operational needs. Support to the PDGS subsystems specification evolution. Management of industry in charge of PDGS subsystems evolution and maintenance. Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the mission lifetime. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in engineering or Remote Sensing. Experience on ground segments implementation, in particular on Requirements specification Development of PDGS Mission Planning and Mission Monitoring subsystems System and Software anomalies management reporting, analysis, classification and resolution. Knowledge of the ECSS standards and, as an asset, documentation and configuration control management techniques. The following skills would be highly desirable Project management experience, preferably in the field of Earth Observation Ground Segment Development. Knowledge of the ESA Earth Explorers missions and instruments and processes related to their PDGS development. ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Spacecraft Engineer, Payload Subsystem will part of the team in charge of Payload Engineering, spacecraft inorbit operations and performance monitoring, as well as support to spacecraft planning, design and procurement for the GEO andor MEO Fleet. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES KEY RESULTS AREAS Monitor health status and provide oncall support for satellites in operation, including recovery and followup of eventual spacecraft offlimit conditions, anomalies and service interruptions Ensure Customer satisfaction in line with SLA terms and maximize satellite fleet availability and longevity Support procedure development of payload mission of the current and upcoming satellites. Ensure lessons learned are applied. Develop and maintain new integrated payload applications and tools required for performance monitoring, operation automation, resource optimization and constellation performance Act as Payload expert for other people in SES Group and to satellite users pertaining to satellite performance. Support endtoend design solutions. Requires a thorough understanding of endtoend communications link budgets and infrastructure Support and prepare for spacecraft anomalies and contingency operations, including new operational solutions, for contingency operations at spacecraft and fleet level Support Payload mission, operations and phasing of the MEO satellites into constellation. Support Payload IOT, transition and phasing for Start of Service. Support the design and procurement of new satellites, for spacecraft design reviews, integration, ground and inorbit testing. Develop training material and provide technical training to internal Customers COMPETENCIES Have a thorough understanding of the satellite payload subsystems, including the management all the equipment on board of the spacecraft that is required for proper transmission of the customer signal Have strong analytical and problemsolving skills Have strong computer software skills. Intermediate or advance in analytical programming languages Python, visual Basic andor Matlab and or Web Dev or any Web Development programming languages are a plus. Familiar with data retrieval, data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence Have a sound theoretical knowledge, and be eager to implement it in a practical environment Be able to provide 247 oncall support, react to contingencies and cope with high stress situations Have a strong sense of initiative and a selfstarter attitude Ability to adapt to fastpaced or custom situations with innovative and effective solutions Ability to develop autonomously new methods, applications meeting new business requirements Ability to effectively respond to and interact with all levels of organizational staff Have strong communication skills, both written and oral, and teamspirit Be willing to integrate into an international environment Have a thorough understanding of Digital Transparent Processor Design and Operations QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE Bachelors degree in Engineering masters degree preferred, with a specialization in Radio Frequency telecommunications. Role description summary The ADCS Propulsion team are responsible for the satellite attitude control, data handling and propulsion subsystems across the SES fleet of GEO and MEO satellites. In this role, you will become part of an EU and US based team that provides engineering support to the satellite operations control centers, implements all required development for safe satellite in orbit operations, ensures readiness for and smooth execution of future satellite missions, as well as provides engineering support to the SES satellite procurement field offices situated at the satellite manufacturers. Your Responsibilities Provide attitude dynamics, control, propulsion and data handling expertise to nominal and contingency operations of the satellite fleet, including 247 oncall support Monitor the onorbit ADCS, DHE and Propulsion subsystems to identify degraded performance, anticipate scenarios and take appropriate action. You will develop and maintain tools for evaluating and trending health to maximize satellite safety, availability and longevity Provide support to new satellite construction programs, orbit raising operations, and development of the ground products required for satellite operations Provide satellite engineering expertise to internal and external customers in relation to the responsibilities of the section. Work closely with external satellite manufacturers Contribute to a continuous effort to more effectively and efficiently manage the satellite in orbit operations, including process, procedures, monitoring, and data analysis improvements Make use of machine learning and big data analytics to further automate execution of operations, identify out of family performance and diagnose anomalies Your Profile A Bachelors Degree, or higher, in Space Engineering, with a specialization which includes dynamics and control system theory and application. Additional courses or knowledge in Computer or Data Science are beneficial. Computer software skills with proficiency with MATLAB andor Python programming language. 1 to 3 years applicable professional experience in satellite engineering andor operations are desired, but not mandatory. Recent Graduate applications welcome. A willingness to work and build presence within a team that includes remote management and team members situated at multiple SES sites. Requires a strong sense of initiative and a selfstarter attitude. Commitment to deadlines and willingness to meet the needs of a 24x7 oncall environment, which can require out of hours support. A valid driver license is essential for oncall support. This position is advertised for Luxembourg EU and Virginia US.
