Reuters: A U.S. senator is pressing the Environmental Protection Agency to release more information on the market used to trade biofuel credits, known as RINs, after suggestions of manipulation by Wall Street banks. "I'm concerned about recent reports of manipulation or exploitation of the RIN market," Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said in a letter to U.S. EPA administrator Gina McCarthy. The comments may signal a greater openness...

Environmentalists argue biofuels made from food like corn or soybeans add as much or even more to greenhouse gas emissions as fossil fuels they are meant to replace because...

BusinessGreen: MEPs have today approved a cap on the production of food crop-based biofuels and backed plans to measure indirect emissions from 2020. A European Parliament vote in Strasbourg confirmed fuels derived from food crops such as wheat, corn, or sugar cannot contribute more than six per cent towards the bloc's 2020 goal of sourcing 10 per cent of transport energy from renewable sources. MEPs also backed a 2.5 per cent share for advanced biofuels, which are derived from feedstocks such as algae or waste....
