IMF warns Afghanistan's economic slump will impact neighbours

Afghanistan's economic turmoil will fuel a refugee crisis impacting nearby countries, the fund warned.

The fund cuts its outlook for advanced economies this year, but says poorer nations are most at risk.

The move follows the Taliban's takeover, and lack of global agreement over who now governs Afghanistan.

Inequality had widened in the year since the virus first hit the global economy, the IMF said on Wednesday.

The IMF has upgraded both its UK and global forecasts compared with what it projected in January.
