Senior Legal and Regulatory Counsel mf Ref SES0393 Region Europe Location Luxembourg Betzdorf Company SES Category Legal Position Staff Context In this position you will act as compliance counsel for EMEA operations, in close coordination with the existing team. You will also act as the key point of contact for regulatory issues EMEA, focusing on Russia, CIS and the Middle East and nearby region. You will work closely with Legal team members responsible for compliance with country sanctions, ITAR and other trade rules, and general compliance issues. You will be expected to support existing data privacy and IT initiatives to ensure SES compliance with all pertinent rules. As Legal Counsel you will support the Legal group by managing regulatory authorizations and compliance obligations for SES satellite operations in the Middle East and CIS region. You will deal with a large territory with widely varying cultural, regulatory and legal requirements and will assume an advocacy role for SES positions and seek to lobby in these countries in coordination with the Global Legal Regulatory team. Responsibilities Regulatory ME CIS Advocate SES interests and positions related to ME CIS and work to raise SES profile in these countries Manage regulatory authorizations and compliance obligations Act as primary regulatory representative before governmental agencies Serve as key advisor for legal, regulatory and policy matters Prepare responses to national consultations, position papers, and advocacy materials Address market access and other trade issues Provide regulatory and legal support for development and commercial teams. Compliance Support lead regulatory counsel and advise on compliance with national and international export control and sanctions laws and regulations Coordinate with European colleagues to assure proper and full export control and sanctions compliance Provide employee sanctions and export control compliance training Meet with, build relationships with and advocate as appropriate before authorities responsible for SES export control licensing, regulations and policies Maintain export database Perform vetting of customers and other third parties to assure sanctions compliance Support lead regulatory counsel on IT data security and data privacy and data security matters. Experience Qualifications JD or University Law degree equivalent to Masters in Law admission to the practice of law in one or more jurisdictions preferred Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in the communications industry with a law firm, government agency or private entityies, preferably with some experience in the satellite sector Experience with international legal and regulatory matters, including but not limited to compliance issues, market access, trade, ITU, and competition law Strong analytical ability and outstanding independent business judgment Demonstrated ability to work within tight time constraints in an organized manner Demonstrated ability to facilitate and coordinate teams toward a businessoriented solution Excellent written and oral communication including drafting negotiating skills Fluency in English required Foreign language skills desirable, especially any ME CIS language Wish to travel internationally Excellent negotiation skills and ability to maintain high level of legal risk mitigation for SES Ability to work across multifunction, multilevel and multicultural groups must be a team player Proactive and independent attitude and result oriented approach Strong ability to manage time, set priorities and work independently in an international oriented and demanding commercial environment Capability to work accurately and in an organized manner with attention to detail Familiarity with or ability to acquire knowledge of the regulatory and institutional frameworks applicable to SESs activities in ME CIS markets Ability to advocate SESs positions and interests outside of the organization Our Offer Competitive salary package, coupled with a diverse array of challenges and development benefits.
