(Telecompaper) Portuguese national commercial broadcaster TVI is now present in Africa with a new project. The general entertainment channel TVI Africa is aimed exclusively at viewers in Angola and Mozambique and is a joint project with Multichoice Africa Group. It is the first time a Portuguese TV channel has built up a general entertainment channel from scratch, made purposely for an operator in a non-Portuguese market. TVI Africa airs exclusive content and a selection of premium programmes from TVI.

Sale of PT Portugal's stake to Altice becomes effective

(Telecompaper) Brazilian operator Oi has announced that the sale by Oi of all shares issued by PT Portugal to Altice Portugal became effective on 02 June. Altice Portugal disbursed the total amount of EUR 5.789 billion for the acquisition of PT Portugal, of which EUR 4.920 billion were paid in cash to Oi and EUR 869 million were allocated to immediately repay outstanding indebtedness of PT Portugal in euros. The final purchase price is subject to post-closing adjustments to be calculated within the next months as a result of changes in the cash, indebtedness and working capital positions on the closing date. French telecom holding company Altice said had now closed the EUR 7.4 billion acquisition of Portugal Telecom's assets in Portugal.

Fosun ups bid for Portugal's Espirito Santo healthcare unit

China's Fosun International Ltd has upped its bid for Portugal's Espirito Santo Saude to 4.82 euros a share or 460.5 million euros in total, stepping up the battle over the hospital business of the indebted Espirito Santo family. Portugal's CMVM market regulator said late on Friday it registered the all-cash offer by conglomerate Fosun's Portuguese insurance unit Fidelidade, while also extending by a week to Oct. 10 a rival offer by Mexico's Grupo Angeles, the first to bid for ESS.
