Turkcell plans overseas expansion to beat lower local sales
2016-07-01 14:22:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Turkish mobile phone operator Turkcell plans to expand outside Turkey to compensate for slowing growth in its home market, writes The Wall-Street Journal citing CEO Kaan Terzioglu. He was speaking during an interview. Revenue growth slowed to 7.4 percent in the past years from 22 percent in the decade after its IPO in 2000. The operator aims to boost revenues by expanding to North Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, Terzioglu said. At present, 91 percent of the operator's revenue comes from its domestic market. But while Terzioglu projects 10 percent annual growth in Turkey in the next three years, he said acquisitions abroad would shrink domestic contribution to total revenue to 60 percent. The remaining 40 percent are expected to come from growing international sales which currently sit at 7 percent, Turkcell's CEO said.
