French 700 MHz auction raises EUR 2.8 billion

(Telecompaper) France's 700 MHz auction ended on the second day, at a price of EUR 466 per 5 GHz block. Orange France and Free each bought two blocks. Numericable-SFR and Bouygues Telecom took one each. The six blocks sold for a total EUR 2.8 billion, or EUR 300 million more than the reserve price.

Turkey 4G auction raises EUR 3.4 billion

(Telecompaper) The 4G auction in Turkey has raised a total of almost EUR 3.4 billion, compared to reserve prices of in total EUR 2.3 billion. Turkcell will pay the most, a total of EUR 1.62 billion, Avea EUR 955 million and Vodafone Turkey 778 million, according to local paper Hurriyet. The one-day, oral auction run by the Information and Communication Technologies Agency offered 20 lots of frequencies in the 800, 900, 1,800, 2,100 and 2,600 MHz bands. The operators will be required to launch 4G services by next April. The spectrum awards remain subject to final approval by the regulator.

German spectrum auction raises over EUR 5 billion

(Telecompaper) The German multi-band spectrum auction has concluded after 16 days of bidding with total proceeds of EUR 5.081 billion, the Bundesnetzagentur announced. Vodafone Germany spent the most, at EUR 2.09 billion, followed by Deutsche Telekom with total bids of EUR 1.97 billion and Telefonica Deutschland at EUR 1.20 billion. Each operator obtained 2x10 MHz in the 700 MHz, with prices driven up the last days of bidding by Vodafone. In the 900 MHz band, Vodafone and O2 each obtained two blocks of 2x5MHz, while Deutsche Telekom gained three blocks. Vodafone took the most spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band, at 2x25 MHz, while T-Mobile took 2x15 MHz and O2 2x10 MHz. The unpaird spectrum in the 1,500 MHz band was split between Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom, with each acquiring 20 MHz. The blocks in the 1,800 MHz band attracted the highest price, at bid of EUR 237.5-258.2 million per block of 2x5 MHz. The 900 MHz band sold for EUR 180.5-211.8 million per block, and the newly released 700 MHz band cost EUR 165.5-171.6 million per block, around double the reserve price of EUR 75 million.

Canadian 2500 MHz auction raises CAD 755 mln

(Telecompaper) Canadian Industry Minister James Moore said nine companies acquired spectrum during the 2500 MHz auction, which raised a total of CAD 755.37 million. Moore said that a total of 318 licences in 61 areas across the country were offered in the 2500 MHz auction. All spectrum licences contained strict "use it or lose it" deployment requirements. Bell, Quebecor, Telus and CCI Wireless were among the operators which bought licenses.
