Federal Industry Minister James Moore says five companies were successful bidders in the auction of AWS-3 wireless airwaves across the country. "The winning bidders now have more spectrum to deliver next-generation services and devices and to improve the services they offer Canadians," Moore said in a news conference Friday.

Argentina raises USD 2.23 bln in auction of 3G, 4G spectrum

(Telecompaper) The government of Argentina received offers of USD 2.23 billion in the tender for 4G spectrum. The offers exceed by 13.6 percent the base price of USD 1.96 billion. The country's telecoms ministry SeCom said that the 15-year licences will be awarded in November. The government offered 4G spectrum in both 700MHz and AWS (1.7-2.1GHz) bands. The government also offered additional 3G spectrum in the 850MHz and 1,900MHz bands. Argentine mobile operators Claro, Personal and Movistar are expected to provide 4G LTE coverage in all provincial capitals and in those cities with over 100,000 inhabitants in 2016. According to the bidding conditions, winning operators will have a maximum of 18 months to deploy LTE infrastructure in these cities.

Brazilian 4G auction raises only BRL 5.85 billion

(Telecompaper) The Brazilian government will receive BRL 5.85 billion from the auction of frequencies in the 700 MHz band for 4G services, well below the BRL 8.0 billion target. Claro Brasil was awarded lot 1, for national coverage, through a bid of BRL 1.947 billion (+1% over the minimum price); TIM Brasil was awarded lot 2, with national coverage, through a bid of BRL 1.928 billion (+1% over the minimum price), while Telefonica/Vivo won lot 3, for the minimum price of BRL 1.927 billion.
