Delta Air Lines Inc. is blasting proposed new federal rules that would require airlines to disclose more information to travelers about the fees they charge. The U.S. Department of Transportation proposed the new rules in May. "Currently, some consumers may be unable to understand the true cost of travel while searching for airfares, due to insufficient information concerning fees for ancillary services," the DOT said in announcing the proposed rules.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration made a series of critical mistakes and had 'ample information' that should have allowed the agency to discover General Motors' ignition switch defect linked to at least 19 deaths and 54 crashes, a congressional report released late Monday found. The auto safety agency came under withering criticism from GOP staff of the House Energy and Commerce Committee in a 44-page report based on a review of millions of pages of records and interviews with key NHTSA officials.
