Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) has widened its loss in the first quarter amid an announcement by the Canadian retailer that it is to offload its online shopping and lifestyle website Gilt and shutter up to ten of its Lord & Taylor stores - including its flagship on New York's Fifth Avenue.

Arlington Heights stores to sell alcohol earlier on Sundays

The village board on Monday unanimously approved changing its municipal code to allow packaged liquor sales starting at 8 a.m. on Sundays rather than 11 a.m. Sales already were allowed to start at 8 a.m. every other day of the week. Jewel-Osco, which has three stores in Arlington Heights, brought the change up with the village and said Sunday is the chain's top shopping day, said Assistant Village Manager Diana Mikula.

Ontario's Liberal government plans to hike the tax on beer and sell a majority stake in Hydro One, a huge transmission utility, to raise about $4 billion to fund infrastructure projects. The government's revised agreement with the foreign-owned Beer Store shows it will raise $100 million a year "by applying a volumetric tax or markup" on all beer sold in Ontario.
