Thorn SDS are seeking an Applications Engineering Support Consultant to join the SEP Data Processing System Applications and Tools Group within the Supporting Applications Engineering team. The successful candidate will support the maintenance and evolution of off line Ground Segment elements, specifically for quality and control, calibration and validation , data visualisation and auxiliary data management and services. Thorn SDS is an AUG registered business with a local bilingual English German support team in Darmstadt. We specialise in the supply of staff and services into the space and security sectors and are particularly interested in speaking to existing contractors at EUMETSAT that may be searching for a cost effective employment partner. This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Supporting Applications Engineering Consultancy Support 1413027 Job Description As a member of the SEP Data Processing System Applications and Tools Group and in particular the Supporting Applications Engineering team, the Key Person shall support the maintenance and evolution of off line Ground Segment elements, specifically for quality control, calibration and validation, data visualisation and auxiliary data management and services. The application software is mainly developed in CC, PERL, and Python. For data visualisation a good knowledge in IDL and ENVI is required. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating each individual Facilities into a system context, covering all aspects from early SW development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Person will also be expected to contribute to design and system engineeringreengineering activities in the area of expertise for existing and future production systems. This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESTEC in Noordwijk in The Netherlands. SAP MMSD Support for End Users, Projects Administrative Coordination 1413026 Job Description ERP 2005 SAP modules in use at EUMETSAT are FI, COPS, HR, MM, SD, Public Sector Management Funds Management. The current EUMETSAT SAP implementation includes for MMSD the following elements SRM functionality for procurements integrated with EUMETSATs SAP Portal. Universal Work List for approval of the business transactions. MMSD ERP backend functionality is integrated into FI and Funds Management. Major areas of functionality usage are currently procurement, elements of Inventory Management and Plant Maintenance, Sales OrdersDeliveries and Sales Contracts for Licence Management and Member States Contribution Management, Customer Service for Data User Management. EUMETSAT is continuously carrying out and implementing smaller process andor functionality enhancements, including also custom developed portal applications or workflow enhancements. Further, a SAP BO project has been started, also covering MMSD related reporting aspects. The current number of EUMETSAT SAP users is estimated to be ca. 600, including staff and consultants. SAP users are grouped into three categories Employee Users. These users use the SAP Portal for accessing the information, e.g. procurement inquiry, and in the future also for end user reporting. Workflow and Reporting Users, who mainly view SAP data and participate in workflow, i.e. electronic approval loop of certain transactions, e.g. SRM Shopping Carts, Purchase Orders, invoices, Sales Orders and Contracts. Most of these users also use SAP for reporting purposes. Professional Transactional Users, who enter and maintain data and transactions directly in SAP ERP. It is not expected that the key person will provide support in areas where a high degree of specialisation is expected, such as Funds Management integration. On the other hand it is expected that the key person is sufficiently knowledgeable in nonMMSD subjects to be able to support end users on generic non MMSD related topics, such as reporting, printing, workflow handling, etc. and to act as backup to SAP End User Support Consultants in the area of SAP HR and Financials. The role of the key person will be 1. To support the implementation of MMSD related enhancements and SAP BO rollout, by Conducting activities such as testing of new functionality, supporting pilot implementations, rollouts and similar activities in a continuous improvement environment and providing respective feedback, Supporting Business Process Experts in testing for technical upgrades including Support and Enhancement Packages, Supporting the Business Process Expert Coordinator in enhancement coordination related activity, such as workshops, meetings, etc. 2. To support daytoday operation of the EUMETSAT SAP System with emphasis on MMSD related topics by Providing second level support to EUMETSAT endusers in the use of the mySAP system. This will mainly involve providing guidance on navigation and assisting users who are not familiar with SAP, however first level support, particularly in areas supported by SAP Portal and workflows functionality is expected, Providing second level functional support to EUMETSAT Service Desk members, especially in identifying the root cause of the problem in close cooperation with 3rd level support, the SAP Business Process Experts and SAP functionality consultants, user error, client setup, SAP Bugs, Customisation errors, missing authorisations etc., and resolve the call if direct enduser support is required, Establishing a knowledge base for end users and EUMETSAT Service Desk of the resolutions to commonly experienced issues questions, calls etc. If necessary, carrying out the initial testing of changes in the test system prior to user acceptance. 3. To facilitate the coordination and communication of changes in the functionality of the SAP system with emphasis on MMSD due to bugs, enhancements, and daily production support. This role is instrumental in helping the SAP Business Expert Group and SAP Consultants to maintain and refine the internal SAP Change Management Process. This role will include the following tasks, as a minimum Monitoring controlling, communicating and tracking the registered bugs with SAP Business Process Experts, SAP Consultants and System Administrators until bug closure. Monitoring the transport requests provided for the resolution of bugs or changes to the system, Initiating the change management process by collecting change details and creating the related change management forms for the changes to the system functionality, Identifying testing, documentation, and training materials that may be affected by system changes with the Business Process Experts BPEs and following up the implementation of the required changes to the affected documentation, including supporting BPEs in the documentation activity. 4. To support enduser and process related documentation and training processes with special emphasis on MMSD by Highlighting end user training needs in the area of MMSD, Coordinating MMSD related end user training initiated via the SAP Business Process Experts, direct requests or as a result of Service Desk action, including training reports and training material, Providing ad hoc and scheduled end user training in cooperation with the SAP Business Process Experts or as part of the EUMETSAT induction programme, Coordinating and followingup changes to enduser documentation, process documentation, test documentation etc. The key person is also expected to support the Business Process Expert Coordinator in administrative tasks such as preparation of bug reports and other types of statistics and to increase hisher knowledge of the EUMETSAT processes and decrease the dependence on the SAP Business Process Expert Group. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in a related discipline. Experience of working in a SAP Support Team with emphasis on MMSD and respective portal applications, preferably in a public sector organisation comparable to EUMETSAT, with involvement in a continuous improvement process, Prior experience in coordinating tasks between a high number of internal and external people, such as bug followup, training coordination and documentation followup, Proven experience in providing enduser support 1st or 2nd level, and proficiency in using the mySAP ERP and portal SRM and workflow functionalities, preferably the mySAP ERP for the public sector, Experience in providing end user training in the areas of SAP navigation, workflow and SRM on SAP portal, Basic understanding of SAP workflow concept and models and the ability to review and trace workflow logs and errors, Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Tools, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
