Specific Tasks Support the ESA PA Safety Manager for designated projects in conducting, monitoring assessing the implementation of the PA Safety Programme. This includes support to any or all of the following activities Establishing the PAS requirements baseline for all elements of the project, in compliance with the ESA general Product Assurance and Safety policy Produce and implement plans, define inputs, outputs, participants, responsibilities, interfaces, coordinate efforts of participants, and produce resulting consolidated inputs. Reviewing contractors plans, specifications and effort proposed for the execution of the project PAS programme Produce reports of review activities performed e.g. documents reviewed, checklists used, spot check performed and conclusionsrecommendations. Monitoring project PA status identify relevant PA issues, including NCR SPR Waivers Problems Critical Items and systematically tracking all items. Produce monthly reports of monitoring activities performed e.g. inspections, checks, visits, reviews, including conclusions and recommendations. Assessing the implementation of PAS requirements by contractors, participating in design and safety reviews and directing the necessary preventive or corrective actions Produce monthly reports with assessment activities performed e.g. documents reviewed, checklists used, spot check performed, contribution to design and safety reviews, and activities related to preventivecorrective action. Participating in the Boards established within the project for the disposition of Nonconformances Failure Reviews, Test Reviews, etc. Produce reports of participation to boards, indicating the contribution made to these boards e.g. review of agendas, participants, minutes of meeting, action follow up, closeout. Guiding and monitoring the application and procurement of EEE parts, materials and processes and controlling implementation of applicable requirements Produce reports on guidance provided, monitoring activities performed and status of compliance to applicable requirements. Monitoring the manufacturing, integration and test activities with quality assurance audits, mandatory and key inspection points, test witnessing and configuration inspections Produce report on activities performed with conclusion and recommendations. Defining the formal acceptance requirements and conducting the Acceptance Reviews of all contractual deliverable items Produce and implement plans for the preparation of the formal acceptance requirements, defining steps, inputs, outputs, participants, responsibilities, interfaces, and coordinating efforts of participants to produce resulting consolidated inputs to project documents. Produce also reports on the activities performed for conduction of Acceptance Reviews. Supporting the organisation management of the support from all PA discipline Controlling NCR Waivers Problems Critical Items. Produce meeting agendas, check that all inputs are available for the NRB or CCB, check that all needed participants are involved, produce NRB or CCB minutes of meeting, followup on actions identified, ensure proper nonconformancewavierproblemcritical item closeout. Produce also reports on control activities performed. PA for the verification, qualification, acceptance delivery activities. Participating in progress meetings and CCB meetings. Produce inputs to the meeting and whenever requested, produce meeting agendas, check that all inputs are available, check that all needed participants are involved, produce minutes of meeting, followup on actions identified, ensure proper closeout. Participating in all project reviews, including safety reviews. Produce reports on all review activities performed e.g. documents reviewed, checklists used, spot check performed, conclusions and recommendations. Reporting project PA status deviations from plan schedule of all of above. Requirements PhD or Msc Engineering from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent. Proven experience in PA Safety in the space domain. Knowledge of Configuration Management or the implementation of Product Assurance within a quality system certified to ISO 9001 would be an asset.

SRONs mission is to bring about breakthroughs in international space research. Therefore the institute develops pioneering technology and advanced space instruments, and uses them to pursue fundamental astrophysical research, Earth science and exoplanetary research. As national expertise institute SRON gives counsel to the Dutch government and coordinates national contributions to international space missions. SRON stimulates the implementation of space science in our society. SRON stimulates the implementation of space science in our society. SPICA is an Mclass ESA mission and has recently been selected for a 3 year study phase after which it may be selected for launch. SRON, in its role as Principal Investigator, is responsible for the SAFARI instrument onboard SPICA. SAFARI is a grating spectrometer with bolometers read out by Transition Edge Sensors operating at cryogenic temperatures. For the study team we are hiring a Sr. System Engineering manager fm vac.nr. SRON1425 Are you the one that will develop our scientific instrument toward space? Job Summary As technical lead of the SAFARI system engineering team you will go through all phases of a project lifecycle from concept to manufacturing and test to inorbit operations. In the next three years the prime focus is on demonstrating the technology and developing the instrument concept phase A and technology Readiness Level 5. The international SAFARI engineering team consists of about 20 experts, of which 10 are locally at SRON engineers, scientists and support staff. This number will grow to about 100 worldwide if SPICA is selected after phase A. You will also act as deputy project manager. Duties To lead a team of system engineers and instrument scientist throughout the development of a space instrument. To implement within your team requirements engineering design and configuration resulting in a physical architecture generation of technical design and development plan verification to show compliance with the specified requirements risk analysis Control and integration of the engineering disciplines Converging tradeoffs between technical specification, delivery time, cost and risk. Act as technical point of contact of the instrument development and satellite interface with JAXA and ESA. Author scientific publications and present your work at international conferences. To act as internationally established expert in your discipline. Qualifications PhD in a discipline related to FIR instrumentation e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or Astronomy experience in developing instrumentation, preferably space instruments experience with System Engineering Good communicator and listener Good verbal and written communication skills in English Team player, working well as part of a diverse team Ability to work in a continuously changing environment Ability to identify the major issues, obtain relevant technical information from the team and formulate solutions Be able to spend parts of your time with partner institutes outside the Netherlands.
