Buffett may benefit as train lobby bids to weaken safety rule

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett is set to be a chief beneficiary of a bid by Senate Republicans to weaken new regulations to improve train safety in the $2.8 billion crude-by-rail industry, a key cog in the development of the vast North American shale oil fields. A series of oil train accidents, including the July 2013 explosion of a train carrying crude in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, that killed 47 people, led U.S. and Canadian regulators to announce sweeping safety rules in May. Among other things, U.S. oil trains are required to install new electronically controlled pneumatic brakes.

Woman killed by train in Hinckley ID'd

The Pine County sheriff's office reported that Erin Story, 36, of Hinckley, died after being hit by the southbound Canadian Pacific Railway train at about 12:30 a.m. at the East Main Street railroad crossing. The crossing is marked with signals and crossing arms that appeared to be functioning correctly, the sheriff's office reported.

Passengers stuck for 3 hours when train, backup break down

New Jersey Transit says passengers were stranded for more than three hours after their train broke down and their rescue train became disabled. NJ Transit spokeswoman Jennifer Nelson says the train was headed toward Philadelphia with 80 passengers when it lost power north of Absecon Station after 9 a.m. Thursday.

TCS creates training platform to develop the skills of its workforce after the outsourcer sees an increase in digital service sales Tata Consultancy Services has reported an increase in digital service engagements with customers and has set itself a target to train 100,000 staff over the next 12 months through an in-house digital learning platform. The announcement came in TCS's financial results, when it reported over $4bn in sales and a profit of $898m for the three-month period to the end of June, its first fiscal quarter 2016.
