Stocks give up an early gain, mixed at midday

U.S. stocks are losing momentum in midday trading following a major sell-off last week that put caution back into the market.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 14 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,100 as of 12 p.m. Eastern time Thursday.

Constellation Brands, the owner of Corona and Negra Modelo beer, rose 3 percent after the company said its income soared in the latest quarter.
