U.S. EPA and U.S. Department of Justice announced settlement with Duke Energy Corporation to resolve Clean Air Act (CAA) violations at 5 coal-fired power plants across North Carolina. Specifically, said settlement resolves claims that Duke violated federal CAA by unlawfully modifying 13 coal-fired electricity generating units located at Allen, Buck, Cliffside, Dan River, and Riverbend plants without obtaining air permits and installing and operating required air pollution control technologies.

A Black sergeant from New York is awaiting the announcement of a possible $198,000 settlement with the city after he was beaten by Yonkers police officers five years ago, USA Today reports. In Feb. 2010, Kenneth Kissiedu , a sergeant from the 41st Precinct in the Bronx, was accused of interfering with a larceny investigation after coming into contact with two officers while on his way to work.

POSCO said on Tuesday it was still negotiating a legal settlement with Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp after newspapers reported the South Korean steelmaker was in talks to pay its Japanese rival about 30 billion yen in damages for alleged corporate espionage. Officials at POSCO and Nippon Steel said the lawsuits, filed in April 2012, were still proceeding.
