Honeywell has agreed to pay a $300,000 civil penalty and make more than $13 million in improvements at its Hopewell plant to resolve permit violations. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality announced a proposed consent order regarding the violations on Monday in a news release.

Cities want share of road-salt price settlement

More local governments and other public entities have submitted claims for a share of Ohio's $11.5 million settlement with rock salt producers accused of conspiring to drive up prices. The attorney general's office says about 850 entities filed claims by the extended deadline on Friday, including cities, townships and universities.
