Gevo scores Supreme Court win in biofuels patent battle with Butamax

Gevo Inc. , which specializes in turning corn into fuel and feedstocks for the chemical industry, said Tuesday that it has scored a win at the U.S. Supreme Court. The news comes the week after Douglas County-based Gevo, facing losses and with a share price well below $1, said it was cutting its headquarters staff by 41 percent, from 56 to 33. The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that a long-running legal battle between Gevo and rival biofuels company Butamax Advanced Biofuels LLC be remanded back to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals for further review.
