A former Black Panther leader accusing Councilwoman Desley Brooks of assault will have to go to court to get money out of Oakland in connection with the incident. As expected, the City Council on Thursday voted to deny Elaine Brown's claim seeking $7 million for injuries she says she suffered from an altercation with Brooks last October at a barbecue restaurant.

Chevron lost $588 million in the fourth quarter of 2015, a setback that was unleashed by a slide in oil prices, leading Chevron to warn that a fresh round of expense reductions, including job cuts, would be in the offing for 2016, the company reported Friday. "Our 2015 earnings were down significantly from the previous year, reflecting a nearly 50 percent year-on-year decline in crude oil prices," said George Watson, Chevron's chief executive officer, in a prepared release.

The offsets were initially issued under the Carbon Farming Initiative and eligible to cover up to 5% of emissions for the companies covered by Australias carbon price. But after the government binned the carbon price in 2014, the ACCUs are now issued under Australias Emissions Reduction Fund, which the country uses...
