Tulane gets $6.7 million to study long-term impact of Hurricane Katrina

Tulane University has received a $6.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the lasting health, demographic and socioeconomic impacts of Hurricane Katrina on the New Orleans region. The five-year grant will establish the Tulane Center for Studies on Displaced Populations, the goal of which is to gauge how different populations have recovered or faltered more than 10 years after the storm, according to a Tulane news release.

Sprint adds 1.1 million net customers in Sept quarter

(Telecompaper) Sprint added 1.1 million net customers in its second fiscal quarter, compared to 590,000 in the first quarter, as it recorded a low postpaid churn and saw growth in postpaid customers for the first time in more than two years. CEO Marcelo Claure said the quarter marked an inflection point in the company's turnaround strategy. The operator reported USD 8 billion of net operating revenue, down 6 percent on the year-earlier period. Adjusted EBITDA grew by 45 percent in a year to USD 2 billion in the quarter, as cost cuts more than offset the falling service revenue. Sprint improved its bottom line to a UDS 585 million net loss, compared to a USD 765 million net loss in its second fiscal quarter of 2014.
