Satellite Simulator Software Engineer

RHEA is currently recruiting a Satellite Simulator Software Engineer to work on the development, test and validation of operational MCS and simulators at our clients premises in Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The successful candidate will be responsible for the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of operational simulator and Mission Control Systems. The scope of work will include Specification of systems software requirements in collaboration with the operational users Definition of internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Support the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including system validation tests, simulation campaign and software support coordination during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal or external units, e.g. with the Unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and the Unit supplying the ICT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent Knowledge of operational simulators and mission control systems, including mission planning, automation, operational database, archiving, data distribution, etc. Experience with ESOC software engineering methodology and standards, as well as ESOC software development environments and systems, including DOORS Strong knowledge of C, C, Java, UML, XML, and SQL Familiarity with relevant operating systems including LINUX. This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. Software Engineer 1518016 Job Description We are looking for a Software Engineer to support our client ESA in the Advanced Mission Concepts and Technologies team based at the European Space Operations Centre ESOC in Darmstadt. The Advanced Mission Concepts and Technologies group is tasked with facilitating the introduction of innovative spacecraft operations concepts through enabling new technologies. The main objective of the group is to identify, prototype and validate new solutions and applications based on suitable advanced technologies and supporting the use of these solutions in future ESA missions. This role is an exciting position for someone who has a deep interest in software technologies and researching new and innovative ideas in the fields of data mining and artificial intelligence. The positions main responsibilities include first line user support and maintaining the existing software systems and servers in collaboration with the Solenix engineering team. The position also offers the chance to use innovative technologies in the fields of robotics, data mining and artificial intelligence to develop and research preoperational tools and prototypes for the users at the European Space Agency in order to monitor and operate spacecraft. You will be regularly talking to the user communities and undertaking development and research activities. Required Skills and Experience As you will be working with a user community, mainly based at ESOC, communication skills are essential. You should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills and be confident to deal with a wide variety of people and to influence at all levels. Additionally you will need excellent presentation and training skills with the ability to deliver a message such that it generates learning and understanding. Ideally you will have a degree in Computer Science, but other technical or software related engineering degrees will be considered. Innovation is the key word for this role, and if you are able to think creatively, independently and have the ability to come up with new ideas or solutions then the sky is the limit!
