UPDATE 1-U.S. oil rig count lowest since 2010 as drillers step up cuts -Baker Hughes
2016-01-08 21:38:01| Oil & Gas - Topix.net
Jan 8 The U.S. oil rig count this week dropped to the lowest level in over five years as energy firms stepped up the rate of idling rigs after one of the worst years in almost 30 years for drilling, data showed on Friday. Drillers removed 20 oil rigs in the week ended Jan. 8, bringing the total rig count RIG-OL-USA-BHI down to 516, the least since April 2010, oil services company Baker Hughes Inc said in its closely followed report.

At crunch time for US drillers, warm weather threatens meltdown

Energy companies, laden with debt and reeling from a 17-month collapse in oil prices, may now face their most critical few months...

Trib Live: Big results from recently drilled Utica shale wells have several Marcellus producers eyeing a possible push into the deeper rock, though not every driller is sold on its promise. Executives at Downtown-based EQT Corp. and Consol Energy Inc. in Cecil spent a chunk of time during quarterly earnings calls in the past two weeks discussing the potential of the layer, pegged by some to be more prolific than the Marcellus, which runs above it. If the deep Utica works, it is likely to be larger than...
Oil Drillers Bet Choking Wells Will Keep Shale From Going Bust

The Canadian producer is among a growing number of companies that are restricting initial output -- a process known as choking back-- in basins from North Dakota to Texas. They're conceding huge up-front gushers of crude in exchange for smaller production declines over time so that the wells ultimately generate more oil.
