Apple takes 39% of tablet revenues in Q1

(Telecompaper) Apple alone took 39 percent of revenues in the global tablet market in the first quarter of the year, nearly double its shipment unit market share of 22 percent, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. Samsung came in second with 16 percent of revenues, followed by Microsoft with 8 percent, white box manufacturers with 7 percent and Lenovo with 5 percent. The report also revealed that Microsoft and Apple combined to sell over a million of their Surface Pro and iPad Pro 2-in-1 devices in the first quarter, helping to keep tablet average selling prices flat year-on-year at USD 241.

The upbeat view came after Huawei, the world's third-biggest smartphone supplier by volume, on Tuesday said third-quarter global smartphone shipments jumped 63 pct year-on-year to 27.4 million handsets. Higher-end device sales also grew, a key target for Huawei as it seeks to shed its budget supplier image.
