(Telecompaper) Telefonica has followed Vodafone and launched commercial 5G services throughout Spain, pledging to reach 75 percent of the Spanish population by the end of the year. In a video statement, the company's executive chairman Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete described the deployment as the most ambitious in the European Union. "The launch of 5G is a leap forward towards the hyperconnectivity that will change the future of Spain," he said, adding that "it's 5G for everyone, without any exceptions, in all the autonomous communities".
El Salvador imposes strict conditions on America Movil's request to buy Telefonica assets

(Telecompaper) El Salvador's antitrust regulator Superintendencia de Competencia has provisionally approved America Movil's request to acquire Telefonica's operations in El Salvador on acceptance of a series of anti-trust conditions. In a statement, the watchdog cautioned that Claro El Salvador's increased market share could give rise to "limits on competition" and the operator must therefore rule out the future use of spectrum currently used by Telefonica's Movistar unit in the country. The portions include 25 MHz with national coverage in the 850 MHz band and a further 30 MHz in the 1900 MHz band.

Telefonica plans new company to expand fibre in Germany

(Telecompaper) Telefonica plans to create a company to provide fibre-optic networks for under-served areas of Germany, Chief Operating Officer Angel Vila said, according to Reuters. It has already received expressions of interest from investors. Telefonica's new infrastructure unit would run the new operator, which will have "limited financial exposure", Vila said. Subsidiary Telefonica Germany might take an equity stake in the new firm.
