Telefonica Deutschland sells mobile infrastructure to Telxius for EUR 1.5 bln

(Telecompaper) Telefonica Deutschland said it has finalised a deal to sell its passive infrastructure of around 10,100 mobile sites to Telxius for EUR 1.5 billion. The assets include 10,000 rooftop sites and up to 80 tower sites, while the active radio technology remains in the hands of Telefonica Deutschland and will continue to be used to operate the mobile network.

Telefonica brings forward zero-emissions target to 2030, launches Eco Smart seal

(Telecompaper) Telefonica has marked the UN's World Environment Day by announcing that it's now aiming to reach a target of zero net emissions across its four main markets (Spain, Brazil, the UK and Germany) by 2030, rather than the initially planned 2050. In a statement and accompanying video, the company's COO Angel Vila said Telefonica decided to revise its target after achieving a 50 percent reduction in global CO2 emissions in 2019, meeting its 2025 target some 6 years ahead of schedule.

Telefonica Germany choses Ericsson to build 5G core network

(Telecompaper) Telefonica Germany said it has chosen Ericsson to build a new core for its 5G network. The company picked the Swedish telecommunication supplier with the aim to build a secure 5G network, it said. Its core network consists of high-performance servers and fibre-optic technologies.

(Telecompaper) Telefonica said it has seen limited impact on results so far from the Covid-19 pandemic, with the negative effects largely offset by positive effects elsewhere. Nevertheless the company has withdrawn its financial guidance for 2020 due to the uncertain economic climate and said it will make its next two dividend payments in stock, while it focuses on maintaining stable operating cash flow.
