Shares in Taiwan closed lower Monday but remained above the 8,300-point mark after shares in Europe and the United States tumbled Friday following the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision to leave its key interest rate unchanged, dealers said. Taiwan shares closed down 155.10 points, or 1.83 percent, at 8,307.04 after moving between 8,381.58 and 8,404.50, on anemic turnover of NT$75.67 billion .

Shares of regional airline operator Republic Airways tumbled Wednesday after the Teamsters union declined to let pilots vote on the company's latest contract offer, raising the prospect of a bankruptcy filing. Republic Airways Holdings Inc. shares were down 60 cents, or 19.8 percent, to $2.43 in midmorning trading.
