Whole Foods, PBS Kids partner to launch eco-friendly toy line ahead of holidays

The health-conscious grocery chain announced a partnership Thursday with PBS KIDS, a media brand owned by the nonprofit Public Broadcasting Service, to introduce its line of eco-friendly toys exclusively to Whole Foods stores by next week. The toy line, intended for young children ages six months to three years, features toy cars made from recycled goods and stuffed animals made with chemical-free materials.

Source Says Snow Phipps Wins PE-backed Teasdale Foods for About $200 Million

New York private equity firm Snow Phipps Group LLC has emerged as the winning bidder for Teasdale Foods Inc., the provider of Hispanic canned food products that was acquired only three years ago by Palladium Equity Partners LLC. Terms of the transaction, which closed on Tuesday, weren't disclosed but a source familiar with the process said Snow Phipps paid around 10 times the target's about $20 million in revenue, implying a deal valued at roughly $200 million. The auction process included financial players that wanted to enter the burgeoning Hispanic food category and felt they could fuel additional growth in Teasdale, the source said.

Maple Leaf Foods continues to post losses, sales drop after Canada Bread sale

A slimmed-down Maple leaf Foods Inc. is reporting losses at its continuing operations during the third quarter as it closes older plants, including one in New Brunswick, and shifts production to a newer operation in southern Ontario. Maple Leaf's net loss was $26.7 million or 19 cents per share, which was more than the $24.5 million or 18 cents per share in last year's third quarter.
