Brazil greenhouse gas emissions down 4.9 pct in 2012 -report

2013-11-08 10:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: Brazil's greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) fell 4.9 percent in 2012 as declining deforestation rates and a drought-induced drop in cattle herds outweighed increased emissions from the energy sector, an independent study showed on Thursday. The nation's output of heat-trapping gases, which are blamed for climate change, hit 1.484 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) last year, according to Climate Observatory, a network of nongovernmental organizations that includes World Wildlife Fund,...

We can cut emissions without a global deal

2013-11-07 11:18:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Japan set to be criticized for 2020 emissions target

2013-11-07 07:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Asahi Shimbun: The government has set a target of 2020 greenhouse gas emissions at 3.8 percent lower than 2005 levels, sources said, noting that the figure is still more than 3 percent higher than 1990 levels. It is likely to be criticized by the international community. The figure was agreed to during a Nov. 6 meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Environment Minister Nobuteru Ishihara. It reflects a sense that Japan may not be able to depend on nuclear power--a clean form of energy--in the future...
